As a sexologist who intimately studies nearly every area of sexuality, I cannot stress the importance of sexual pleasure enough. We all know that orgasms and sexual activity have countless health-promoting benefits such as stress relief, lower blood pressure, cardiac improvement, pain reduction, mood elevation and improved sleep. With all of these benefits, there's no excuse for abandoning sexual pleasure. Face it: Humans need sex - good sex. And good sex really starts with self-exploration. How can he or she know how to please you if you don't even know? Contrary to popular belief, it doesn't happen like they do it in the movies, where people magically fall in love after a night of unbridled passion between two virgins who finally dared to unleash their most innate desires. Wrong, so wrong. Sex takes knowledge, skill and practice, which means it also takes some education.

What is the most widely-used teaching tool? PORN. While porn can be titillating, it is made for entertainment, which means that scenes are purposely directed to overemphasize sexual acts in order to arouse the viewer. In other words - it's staged. In real life, men don't just hop on top of a woman (or women), do a few tricks and she screams in ecstasy. Sorry to inform you, but it takes a little more skill and effort than that. It's the job of my colleagues in sexuality and I to do a much better job of spreading the message, so that everyone can experience sexual pleasure as it is meant to be and not allow clueless men to continue to brag to their boys about how well they "hit it" after watching hours of head-banging porn.
